These are full pedigree boys, but with incorrect markings, and hence not registrable with the breed society. (Like the one pictured above right who is perfect but for some white hairs on one of his ears.) These ram lambs will be left ‘entire’ - i.e. not castrated - as (in my opinion) they grow and finish better that way. It is not recommended that these animals are kept as ‘lawn-mowers’ as, with maturity, they may become difficult to manage. Being mountain sheep, they are designed to be very thrifty, so thrive on good grazing, and do not require much in the way of proprietary feed to finish, which makes them very suitable for those wishing to rear organic meat. However, they are not fast finishing, and will have to be kept separate from any females from August onwards. They will take between nine and twelve months to finish, but are well worth the wait !
