Happy, Healthy Hens

All our hens are kept free range. They have their own grass paddock and are surrounded by 1.2m high electrified netting to keep the fox out. They are fed a ration of free range layers' pellets, with a bit of GM-free mixed corn scattered on the ground for them in the afternoon. Plus whatever they find pecking around during the day, of course. Chickens need to eat grass to lay really tasty golden-yolked eggs. It is the carotene in the grass which colours/flavours the yolks. Hens which are not kept on grass will never lay eggs of the same standard.

We keep a mixture of pure breed hens and laying hybrids .
This diversity of birds gives us a wonderfully colourful supply
of top-quality eggs.
