What's New - August 2010

DUCKS
The six young male ducks have been separated and are being reared away from the others. This is to keep Elvis (Daddy duck) happy and to stop them getting amorous with their sisters, aunties and mother. Some of the boys are already spoken for, but some are still available.
As yet, I don’t know the sexes of the fifteen younger ducklings.

LAMBS
The lambs have been weaned and the boys are living separately now.
It will soon be time for them to go
to their new homes.

Growing chicks
Following our fox attack, I hatched out ‘Lonely’s Babies’ in an effort to get some reliable blue egg layers. These birds are a cross between my hybrid girls and
Lonely, who was a beautiful araucana cockerel.
The chicks are growing well, and I am waiting to see how many girls we have. Hopefully, if the books I read are correct, they will start to lay blue eggs at
around 20 weeks of age . Fingers crossed !
